Indie pop band Giant Killers has a brand new EP, When This Time is Over out since last May 24. Following the critically acclaimed release of their debut album, Songs For The Small Places, Giant Killers are using their platform for good. Some proceeds from the EP’s sales from Bandcamp will be donated to the suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably.
The title track holds a special place in Giant Killers’ heart as it was their first song which was also written on one of Butch Vig’s guitars. The song itself shimmers with gentle guitars and jangly percussion, building to an exhilarating edge when the melodic riffs kick in. Lead vocalist Jamie Wortley’s deep, soft vocals perfectly complement Michael Brown’s soulful high notes, creating a beautifully layered soundscape.
“When This Time is Over” follows “Billy the Kid” which injects a playful, smug energy with its catchy riff and sparkling percussion grooving together. The soulful vocals and harmonies add an ethereal touch and balance out the music.
The mood shifts with the intimate “Home Time Blue,” where Wortley’s vocals get sultry and breathy, nuanced with the air drawing from his lips. The gnarled guitar riffs and pattering drums create a nonchalant atmosphere.
When This Time is Over closes with the exciting “A Legacy of Sorts.” Shimmering guitars and pulsating drums set the stage for Wortley’s exuberant vocals, showcasing his soulful softness. This is a track that leaves you feeling energized and optimistic.
With a main stage slot at the Shiiine On Festival on the horizon, Giant Killers is coming back live to make you fall in love with them all over again.
