Bulgarian musician and photographer Ivan Shishkov finally unveils WHEN YOUR DEMONS COME, the debut full-length from his metal project BRAINMAZE.
A decade in the making, this record is a raw exorcism of emotions, born on the bass guitar, Shishkovโs trusted weapon of choice, and nurtured through countless late-night sessions. He calls it the music that โlived in his head for years,โ and now it storms into reality with a vengeance. Though itโs a true solo vision, Shishkov handled concept, lyrics, design, and photography, he roped in a global lineup of collaborators from the UK, Argentina, Venezuela, Ecuador, Ukraine, and the US, and stitched a fierce cross-continental tapestry of sound.
The record kicks off with โFear,โ and man, does it set the bar high. Gritty riffs grind against sparkling cymbals, creating a furious, almost suffocating energy. The vocals are raw and raspy, spit out with venom, like a throat torn open in defiance. Fast-forward to โDisillusion,โ and the guitar work practically claws its way out of the speakers. The riffs are vicious, brutal in their precision, and the growling vocals land like shrapnel. It leaves you bruised and wired, like running headfirst into a storm and coming out alive on the other side.
By the time you hit โIโm Terrified,โ the intensity feels volcanic. The singer screams the refrain, โI am terrified,โ with such urgency it borders on ritualistic, cathartic purge that mirrors the albumโs central theme: facing your demons head-on. Listen to it on YouTube.
