Irish singer-songwriter Gavin Fox returns this Christmas season with โWhere I Belong,โ a tender Americana/folk duet shaped for anyone spending the holidays far from the people they love. Released on November 21, the track carries Foxโs signature emotional honesty while introducing the stunning debut of Lilirose, whose earthy, luminous voice softens the story. Written during a late-night jam with longtime collaborator Eric Molimard, the song became a duet almost by accident, exactly the serendipity that gives it its magic.
The track opens with warm, delicately strummed acoustic guitars, instantly setting the room aglow with that bittersweet December stillness. Fox enters first with his raspy, grainy, weathered voice, longing and aching. He sings slowly, as though reliving every lonely morning and empty evening heโs endured while waiting for someone to return. It has shades of Tom Waitsโ rough tenderness and Damien Riceโs emotional precision, his voice cracking at the edges of vulnerability.
Then, almost like a soft gust of winter air, Lilirose steps in. Her lighter, gentler tone brings a new, tender, soothing, and hopeful emotional temperature. She reminds of Lisa Hanniganโs thawing sensitivity with the ethereal lift of a young Florence Welch. When she answers Foxโs lines, the song shifts from solitary longing to a shared confession of love stretched across distance.
When their voices finally blend, the harmonies bloom into something quietly breathtaking, with two hearts calling across miles, promising that home still exists in each other. Melodious guitars, soft percussion, and an acoustic warmth light up a dark room with their warmth. As the chorus repeats, โwrapped in your arms is where I belong,โ the song settles into a soft emotional cradle, full of yearning and reassurance.
โWhere I Belongโ is an honest, intimate musical embrace, destined to resonate with anyone counting the days until theyโre home again.
