Out of Glasgowโs ever-brewing creative underground comes Backroom Gossip, the production duo and collective steered by Geoff Angus and Stefan Celosia. Born from what they describe as a string of convenient mishaps, the pair have since locked themselves into an endless spiral of composition, and honestly, it suits them. Geoff, a classically trained piano virtuoso obsessed with the purpose of every note, brings narrative precision. Stefan, the groove architect and multi-instrumentalist, keeps things grounded, believing the best music flows when the pressureโs off. Together, they curate sonic secrets from the โbackrooms,โ and โWhy should I?โ might be one of their most quietly devastating reveals yet.
The track slides in on a moody, instantly catchy groove. Lush, melodic guitars ripple through the mix, setting a late-night, intimate and slightly haunted tone. A gentle piano glides underneath, subtle but steady, like a thought you canโt quite shake. Then the tender, sensual vocals come, steeped in longing. The singer delivers each line with emotional weight, letting it simmer just below the surface.
โEmpty room, empty bed, broken bottle I canโt mendโฆโ she confesses, painting isolation in stark, relatable strokes. She sings the chorus, โWhy should I, why should I care when the only one I ever loved has gone away.โ The question hangs in the air, unresolved.
Behind her, harmonies rise and soar ethereally, almost ghostlike, amplifying the loneliness rather than softening it. They wrap around her voice with soulful restraint, adding depth without distraction.
โWhy should I?โ thrives on atmosphere and emotional honesty. Listen to Backroom Gossip cut a tad too deep on Spotify.
