London-based Ukrainian artist U V A R O V turns the ache of unfinished feelings into atmospheric hip-hop on “Тянет назад” (“Pulls Back”). Originally from Zaporizhzhia and now building his career in the UK, the artist brings Russian-language storytelling into a contemporary sound shaped by the emotional production of Juice WRLD, A$AP Rocky and Travis Scott.
The track begins with immersive textures and U V A R O V’s solemn spoken-word delivery, creating an almost cinematic sense of distance. Then the beats arrive, coolly and patiently, gradually giving the song its pulse. His voice moves slowly and deliberately over the catchy, steady heavy rhythm, keeping the performance intimate while allowing the production to carry the tension underneath.
Lyrically, “Тянет назад” circles the push and pull of trying to move on while still being haunted by someone who once felt like home. Images of city lights, an empty phone screen and a relationship reduced to a screen capture the loneliness of emotional separation. The repeated refrain of being pulled back gives the track its emotional hook, turning that lingering attachment into something almost physical.
Recorded in London with FEVRAL MUSIC, the song was built around atmosphere. U V A R O V experimented with vocal takes and space in the mix, making sure the instrumental supports rather than overwhelms the words.
There’s a real sense of cultural transition here, too: Russian lyrics, Ukrainian roots and a developing UK-based sound meet in the same track. “Тянет назад” ultimately understands a messy truth that sometimes, the past keeps calling, and you simply learn how to keep walking anyway.
