Norwegian singer-songwriter Marianne Engebretsen returns with a moving new single, โA Normal After This,โ released on October 10, 2025, under her label Flowerdust. Following the critical success of her previous albums Redefined and Something New, this track marks the beginning of a new chapter that blends raw emotion with introspective songwriting. Co-produced with Thomas Engebretsen, the single is also the first glimpse of her upcoming album that illustrates the ache and beauty of life after loss, both personal and geographical. Having recently moved from the city to the countryside, Marianne channels that liminal feeling of starting over into an intimate yet universally relatable piece.
The song opens softly with delicate, plucked guitar strings, setting a fragile and hopeful mood. Marianneโs high and delicate voice sensitively and wistfully floats above the gentle strumming, like her character is made of porcelain. As the track unfolds, her vulnerability seeps through, especially in these lines, โIโm feeling far away and it is moving / To think about the times that we had.โ The melody slowly builds, joined by light percussion and rumbling drums that kick in during the chorus, mirroring the internal storm of trying to find peace after heartbreak. She performs heavily with the palpable need as she sings, โFigure out a way to breathe / Normal without you / Tell me if there is a normal after this.โ
โA Normal After Thisโ feels like the calm after emotional chaos, a bittersweet reflection on love, loss, and the tender courage it takes to rebuild. Itโs Marianne Engebretsen at her most authentic, weaving pain into poetry. Listen to it on Spotify.
