Seattle-based artist Zodic revisits a heartfelt chapter of his past with “Tell Me – ReEdit,” a slow-burning R&B confession that wears its emotions right on its sleeve. Originally written and recorded in 2019 while Zodic was in college in Cheney, Washington, the track grew out of a rough patch with his first girlfriend, an experience that clearly left its mark. Years later, the song has been remixed and polished with help from Toronto mixing engineer Tyler Bugara and Delaware mastering engineer David Mason, giving the track a cleaner, fuller sound while preserving its raw emotional core. Drawing inspiration from the silky smooth vocal styles of artists like Ne-Yo and Chris Brown, Zodic leans into a nostalgic R&B vibe, like a throwback to the genre’s more tender, apology-driven love songs.
Right from the jump, “Tell Me – ReEdit” sinks into a mellow groove. A slow, steady beat anchors the track while shimmery, swirling textures drift overhead like soft neon lights in a late-night cityscape. The production is immersive but restrained, letting the vocals take center stage. Zodic sings in a slightly slurry, high voice that brings all the vulnerability and sincerity. His voice glides over the beat as layered background vocals wail faintly in the distance.
Lyrically, the song reads like a heartfelt plea for a second chance. He sings, “Tell me what I gotta do to let you know that I’m here with you.” The line, “Tell me that it’s alright to forgive just one mo’ time,” captures that anxious, hopeful moment when someone realizes they’ve messed up and is scrambling to fix things before it’s too late. It’s refreshing and honest, as Zodic openly admits his past mistakes while promising to show “the best part” of himself moving forward. As the track unfolds, the melodies shift and weave together, giving the song a fluid, almost freestyle feel.
It’s a late-night R&B ballad built for dim lights, long drives, and maybe even patching up a relationship or two along the way.
