After years of commanding theatre stages and touring internationally, Maribelle steps into a quieter, more introspective spotlight with “A Prayer.” As the second glimpse into her upcoming project, A New Spring, the Norwegian singer-songwriter leans into vulnerability, trading grand theatrics for something softer, more meditative, which works like a charm.
Having built her foundation in musical theatre at the Performing Arts School (PAS) in Gothenburg, before carving out a solo path, Maribelle knows how to carry emotion, which she has been doing since 2011. So here she lets it breathe. The track circles around themes of letting go, forgiving yourself, and finding the courage to begin again.
Right from the start, “A Prayer” shimmers into existence with a glistening melody that feels almost weightless. The atmosphere is airy, spacious, like standing in a quiet room where even your thoughts echo back at you. Then come the layered backing vocals, softly harmonizing and swelling in the distance, giving the track a kind of sacred, choral depth without ever overwhelming it.
Maribelle’s voice is the real anchor here. She soars, but in an ethereal, controlled way, just gliding through the soundscape with confidence. As the song unfolds, subtle beats begin to tap and pulse underneath. Her voice thickens and expands in places.
All in all, “A Prayer” lives up to its name. It’s reflective, calming, and powerful. It’s the much-needed exhale in a world that rarely slows down.
