Dax flips the script on traditional country music with his latest single, “A Real Man.” The song explores the pressures men face in relationships with minimalistic instrumentals and heartfelt storytelling.
“A Real Man” has a fresh, open, relaxing yet engaging soundscape as Dax seamlessly blends country twang with a modern hip-hop beat. Relaxing guitar riffs set the stage for Dax’s deep, soulful vocals. Also known as one of the best rappers right now, the man shows he can sing as well as he raps.
Dax tackles the issue of unrealistic expectations on men. The lyrics highlight the pain men feel when they’re forced to bottle up their feelings. Lines like “Wears his heart on his sleeve / But don’t get mad” perfectly capture the double-bind man faces.
The song explores the destructive cycle, disconnect and lack of communication in traditional relationships. Men are expected to be the strong, silent type, while women crave emotional connection. The bridge hits hard, with Dax’s voice hitting every word with emphasis and frustration as he sings, “He’s the rock that she needs/But she hammers away/At the love that he has/Like she wants it to break.”
The accompanying music video narrates the lack of understanding from his partner as a man struggles to balance work and family. The comfort he seeks in alcohol only deepens the chasm between them. Dax pleads for a world where men can be vulnerable without judgment and where “Love is patient/Love is kind” is a way of life.
Listen to “A Real Man” by Dax to find out what the realities of men are really like.
