Need a chill track to relax to? Alone Time by Charlie Jefferson is the track for you. It’s relaxing and calm. But they all are, right? Yeah, but Charlie did it differently. It’s not a synthesized Lofi track. Jefferson accompanied soulful guitars and woodwinds over the simplistic vintage synth layered above a downtempo bass. Alone Time has this strange vibe that makes you wistful and melancholic. But rightfully so, because the synth is crafted to build an ambient vibe that just washes over you like ocean waves (You could actually play the music over actual receding waves and see similar patterns).
The synth dances with its rhythms as the guitar, and the other instruments build emphasis over it. The layering appends themes to the calmness, helping us direct our transcendence in the right direction. It’s as though the becoming instruments are filling the space with more objects to focus our minds on, as the synth can let you get carried away. This makes for an excellent meditation track, not gonna lie.
If you are wondering where all this excellence came from, let’s read into the artist’s words: “At the time of writing this piece, I was coming to terms with a future as a childless man and this inspired the track’s name. Following unsuccessful IVF, my partner and I have more ‘alone time’ on our hands than most of our friends and family members.”
Charlie Jefferson makes instrumental music grounded in Americana roots. He had his music written for the award-winning feature “Scheme Birds” by Lena Dunham. The man has a talent, and let’s not give it away. Alone Time was released on March 16. Check it out now!
