Stars in Coma, helmed by André Brorsson, released the song, “Aluminum” from its upcoming album on August 16. The captivating and soothing song unfolds like a dreamlike soundscape.
Inspired by musicians like Belle & Sebastian, David Bowie, and Ariel Pink, the song’s gentle and shimmering melody swinging in layers creates a relaxing atmosphere. Balanced by rumbling drums, the song gets its uplifting and head-nodding momentum.
The hazy and calming vocals are a standout feature of the song. The singer’s relaxed delivery creates a sense of intimacy and tranquility. The melody is catchy and lingers in the mind long after the song has ended.
“Aluminum” is the first single from Stars in Coma’s upcoming album, “We Were Already Islands.” The album chronicles Brorsson’s journey from a dark place to a more hopeful state of mind. The music reflects this evolution, with the first half leaning towards a darker, synth-driven sound, and the latter half embracing a jangle-pop aesthetic.
The recording process for “We Were Already Islands” was not without its challenges. Brorsson’s struggles in 2020 and 2021 are reflected in the angst and frustration that fueled the creative process. However, this emotional turmoil ultimately resulted in a collection of powerful and introspective songs.
