I don’t know about you, but as a reviewer, I have yet to come across another album that divulges the adversities of this growing, technological, tangible world. “An Unreachable Peak” by Gingerjamesfair isn’t your everyday sob story or love song about a relationship, a broken-up affair, or a tragic loss—it’s about your work! We may want to forget about it when we return, but why wouldn’t we want to make the real-life problems that make up most of our lives feel heard too?
The recently released album unclenches with the introductory track, “New Clothes,” which opens slightly atypically with oinking and grunting noises. This sound is legit from an actual pig belonging to the artist. Ironically, with this humorous start, the album continues with a classic lush sound and glimmery guitar strumming to slowly unfold the thick and rich vocals, singing emphatically and emotively into the orchestral tapestry.
Moving on to the second song, “The Great Resignation,” we hear a quippy song with entertaining and sarcastic wordplay and repartee. The track “Go Self-Employed” brings a folksy vibe with illustrious guitar strummings and cynicism. The standout lyrics, “You are so annoyed/Go Self-Employed!” speak for themselves when jobs, bosses, and everything else get on your nerves.
Gingerjamesfair, the alias behind James Fair, gives the songs a romantic and calming flair with his rich and slow-sung vocals rippling gently over the instrumentals like guitalele, mandolin and thumb piano. The mellow sound is intuitively built around the sensibilities of MerrieLand by The Good, The Bad, and The Queen.
If you want more of this realistic suffering narrated in your ears, definitely meditate on the tracks of “An Unreachable Peak” by the singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist James Fair.
