April’s Gonna Rain by Robbie Rapids: Review
Since the age of 16, Michigan singer, songwriter, and guitarist Robbie Rapids has performed music under many band names. Rapids and the accomplished musician and producer David Levene collaborated on his most recent track, “April’s Gonna Rain.”
The song’s major image is the month of April, both as a girl’s name and as the renowned proverb “April showers bring May flowers.” She was a colleague he used to have a crush on back in the day. She somehow confided in him about her worries, uncertainties, and dramas as she prepared to get married. The song was full of metaphors, including references to rain, flooding, and even a thunderstorm near the end. It was almost as if the weather was a representation of her intense emotions, as it becomes stormy whenever she is upset. The rain stops, the sun comes out, and the flowers that have been waiting for the rain to bloom finally do: “If it don’t rain in her life, the flowers won’t bloom in her life.” Speaking of the song, Robbie Rapids admitted: “It’s hard to name the style of music this song is as it’s a dark, funky, dissonant, yet full of rock.” The song’s rhythm is built on a foundation of distorted guitar layers, a powerful kick drum, and melancholy vocals. A guitar solo with some interesting use of an wah pedal is featured prominently in Levene’s performance.
Robbie Rapids continues to push boundaries and try new things in his music with “April’s Gonna Rain.” You will love it!
