JAW$’s new single “AWAY,” released on May 21, 2025, is an aching dive into heartbreak and emotional collapse, wrapped in an experimental blend of shoegaze, hip hop, and goth rock. Hailing from Atlanta’s underground scene, JAW$ engineers and writes all his own material, recording alone in his garage during late-night hours that clearly bleed into his music.
“AWAY” opens with a warped, distorted guitar riff that jitters and buzzes against a dreamy backdrop, building an atmosphere that feels both unhinged and strangely meditative. His voice cuts through the haze with gritty vulnerability, trailing off in raw, half-wailed confessions that make the track feel more like a private breakdown than a studio record.
Drawing from the ghostly influence of Lil Peep, the emotional wreckage of XXXTentacion, and the lo-fi melancholy of Black Kray, JAW$ taps into something intensely personal yet disarmingly relatable. “Don’t go runnin’ away, my darling,” he pleads, weaving the hopelessness of clinging to something broken with the reluctant understanding that love, especially when it’s all-consuming, often collapses under its own weight. It’s gonna hit hardest at 3 a.m., especially if you’re mid-trip and mid-breakup, as JAW$ himself confesses.
There’s a slurred sincerity in his delivery that makes the track’s lo-fi imperfections feel purposeful. The production, while rough around the edges, complements the theme beautifully: fuzzy vocals, trippy layering, and a delayed beat drop that mirrors the delayed emotional fallout of lost love.
As a single father with nothing but music and a vision, JAW$ puts his entire being into his work. “AWAY” is a diary entry, a therapy session, and a quiet anthem for the emotionally wrecked. If you’re spiraling, you’ll find yourself in it.
