Bad Luck by Laura Lang: Album Review
The gripping tension of indie rock, with a soft voice to carry the weight of it all. Heartfelt and truly emotional, “Bad Luck” by Laura Lang is a catchy album filled with seven captivating tracks to soothe your nerves.
Within the inception of the album lies an alternative and indie rock track entitled “Love Letter”. The track’s rhythm section incorporates a grunge-style guitar piece and bass lines that add an interesting depth. It creates a sorrowful atmosphere from the instrumentation. It is hauntingly beautiful to hear, and in combination with the singer’s voice, it truly feels like an anthem of the heart. Laura Lang’s voice has a subtle texture to fit into upbeat tempos and also slower ones. So, hearing tracks such as “Slow Burn” put a smile on my face. It is an ambient piece filled with a gentle melody carried forward through acoustic guitars and light percussive pieces. The track mixes in that ethereal feeling to carry forward a distinct taste of indie music.
When I got to the fifth track, “Ran For You,” I was absolutely engrossed by the melody. The guitar and bass sections were initially characterized by a deep bass-infused tone with minimal treble. As a result, the entire song was built around a sense of melancholy, yet with some upbeat piano bits and Laura’s beautiful vocals, it became a great and heartfelt tune. The “Bad Luck” CD is ideal for cozying up with a warm cup of coffee and a good book on a chilly, stormy night at home.
