Basquiat Dreams Johari Turner: Review
If there’s one thing that surely brings people from all circles of life together, it’s music. Music has an unseen control over us, which is both powerful and beautiful. And today I’m here to rekindle your love of hip-hop. If you enjoy singer-songwriters whose music features soulful vocals over rap and colorful electronic sounds, you’ll enjoy Johari Turner’s “Basquiat Dreams” to its entirety.
Based in Dallas, Johari’s got the likes of Frank Ocean and many other artists in the industry. His album “Basquiat Dreams” displays a multifaceted hip-hop style, with influences ranging from pop to slick R&B. The young artist is charming in his vocal delivery, and merges various atmospheric synths and energetic rhythmic elements to complement his relaxed singing style. It’s a compelling invitation to keep listening. The second half of “Ride Low” features a rich turn, while the song “Checkmate” features an irresistible bridge.
The song “Ride Low” shines with its ethereal synth backdrop and lyrics that beg to “simply want to ride,” deftly shifting between quiet introspection and ferocious energy. Similarly, the second part of “Checkmate” opens up to more space than the first. Its soothing R&B undertones are another pool in which the number “selfish” marvels. Meanwhile, “for a certain someone” displays the artist’s more dexterous abilities with its rhythmic flow and buzz.
Johari is a promising up-and-comer who channels all his efforts into making Basquiat Dreams into a reality and success. Give it a go and let me know which track hooked you in!
