Goia Paranoia gets psychedelically fiery and deep in their debut single, “Black Out.” Released this August 5, this introspective, self-destructive, yet engaging song will get you dazed and crazed in its haze.
“Black Out” starts intriguingly. It has Antonio Maglica’s fuzzy guitars shredding and drums beating slowly then increasing in frequency to the point of them reaching the hilt furiously. They crash and return to the scene with cymbals and drums clashing hard together. Simon Lindberg’s hoarse voice wildly screams over the music, not only keeping up with the instrumentals but soaring over them. Maglica also lends their voice to the song, magnifying the repressing appeal.
The lyrics are profound and poetic. Metal is known for that, but Goia Paranoia takes it further by taking to the depths of manic depression and frustration with imagery scathing in your head, leading up to the empathy we feel for the “wretched.” They create a whole murky scene with stark negative symbols, especially in the lines, “I see the wretched I/Cracking up inside/Submissive to the blind/Asphyxiation/Rough stench of cigarettes.”
The bridge brings a decline in the instrumentals, leaving behind a drone that zooms immersively over steady, slow beats. Meanwhile, the guitars grind and churn grittily, sounding soaked as if riffing underwater. The instrumentals drive menacingly until the end of “Black Out,” revving us up with the volatile intensity.
Stay in the loop with Goia Paranoia because they are coming with more singles this September and October. And of course, this teases their debut album Pandemonium Overdrive.
