Blunderbuss by SAFARI ROOM: Review

Modern problems require modern solutions. So what is the hook-up culture? A problem or a solution in itself? Safari Room wonders whether hook-up culture is helping people connect or is leading us on a mirage while misguiding us from our real paths as you listen to their moody bop, “Blunderbuss,” in the club.

“I believe that someone will take me home tonight, and I believe that someone is you,” is what you will hear the lead singer, Alec Koukol, croon to the mic in a low voice with a romantic and sensual appeal after the music starts. But something’s wrong. The music has dark and driving guitar riffs and bass playing to get you wondering whether you are being played with. It’s like you can see someone smirking at you with devilish eyes.

The syncopated drums and bass help the message disperse, with the narrator crossing their fingers as he is being led through the “loudest place on Earth” for a bubble we all know will burst. The vocalist and the music demonstrate a fever dream through the sensually controlled vocals and the derisive and catchy dance beats from above.

If you somehow get hooked on this song by Safari Room, let me warn you. You will find their discography much different because “Blunderbuss” only marks the beginning of a new era—a new album.
