born & Brewed release a new track ‘Whiskey in the water’
The first single from our upcoming album Born & Brewed EST, due out in November 2022, is called “whiskey in the water.” Rich’s personal experience with addiction and his own internal struggles serve as the foundation for this hard-hitting, gritty song. The song explores mental health through musical expression and connects one man’s struggle to overcome his demons and pursue his dreams. Bluesy rock music sets the mood for the song’s strong vocals, tense lyrics, and powerful music. The intensity of Mike’s slide guitar playing builds to a crescendo, reflecting the verses’ depiction of a vicious cycle that is spiraling out of control and the possibility of escape through his guitar solos.
On the second take, we were able to establish the raw, live feel that we had decided to create. We knew we had something special once the track was finished. The song “Whiskey in the water” perfectly captures the sound of Born & Brewed. All songs on our new album were chosen with the goal of keeping the track as close to a live performance as possible.
“Whiskey in the water” is intended to increase mental health awareness, encourage conversation, and share experiences in a way that has a positive effect. The song aims to draw attention to the problems caused by exclusion and isolation and transforms them into a picture that reflects the variety of mental health in order to lessen the stigma associated with it. An original duo called Born & Brewed was established in Portishead, UK, in 2019. The country blues, Americana, and bluegrass that Rich (Beardymud) Sidwick and Mike (Slick) Palomares produce have a gritty edge. The duo’s close ties to the South West music scene, where they previously performed together for 14 years as Slick and Rich, have helped to define their sound. Rich’s father, who was his biggest fan and supporter, passed away in 2019, and he wrote the duo’s opening song, Papa Moon, as a tribute. This marked the start of Rich’s memoir Born and Brewed, which details his struggles with addiction and mental illness. He aspires to inspire and assist others in their healing through music.
They are currently working on their debut record, Born and Brewed Est, which authentically conveys their life stories through music. While Mike’s bluesy slide guitar provides an atmospheric backdrop that enhances their journey, Rich’s raspy vocals give the music a smoky quality. Music continues to bring these individuals together as they create original songs that are inspired by Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Larkin Poe, The Dead South, Colter Wall, and Chris Rea.
