Canadian indie pop duo Wotts, consisting of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Jayem and bassist/guitarist Ricky 100, brings candor and carefree intimacy to their new single, “Boy + Girl.” As the final track from their EP Good People, Bad People, this song feels like a relaxing culmination of their sound.
The song opens with lively, playful rhythms before a thumping drum roll takes us into an addictive beat. The rhythm section pumps with energy, while lush, immersive melodies bring a vibrant balance.
Jayem’s high, husky vocals flow effortlessly through the track, exuding a smooth, sultry charm. His delivery is both captivating and soothing, making a lasting impression as it weaves seamlessly into the catchy instrumentation. His calm yet lighthearted tone provides a grounding contrast to the pulsating beats, creating a blend of excitement and floaty relaxation.
As the song progresses towards its end, it becomes more dynamic and danceable, building excitement. If you are into Tame Impala and Dayglow, this song will be just up your alley with its analog synths and upbeat, dreamy soundscapes.
Definitely different from their earlier two releases from their EP, “Boy + Girl” brings more lightness. Now that it is finally out since September 13, Wotts can move on to sounds more exciting. Expect more guitars and Britpop coming out the riffs with the Canadian duo.
