Burning Daylight by Oliver Birch: Review
Oliver Birchโs album โBurning Daylight,โ has a mysterious song of the same name. It is a more introspective singer-songwriter tune that comments on the struggle of trying to make the most of oneโs time while they are alone themselves. His music is a fusion of a variety of genres, specifically experimental and baroque pop, alternative music, new wave music, and singer-songwriter music. It is the result of countless hours spent working alone, and it has a strong sense of individuality.
Oliver sings about existential anxiety, his struggle with loneliness in recent years, and his frantic need to โbe something,โ which is something that anybody can relate to. His writing is universally accessible.
Song starts off with a guitar track fading in from the background, and it sounds quite mystical. The background is quite atmospheric, and then enters Oliverโs voice, this heavy hotting voice. Man, his voice is calming but at the same time fills you with melancholy, the right kind of course. The guitar licks are quite intense as well. The song makes me feel like getting lost somewhere and watching the sunrise with good people all around. The entire track is like a book, and as the words pour out everything flows into melody. There are parts here and there of a harmonica. The lead guitar is quite bluesy indeed. While the song comes near the end, then it feels like the climax of a soulful story. There is a huge burst of energy with the synth and guitar involved and is truly a pleasure to listen to.
