At just 17, Abbey Anderson might be new to the pop game, but she’s already relaxing in the music industry with her second single, “Butterflies,” recently out. Here, she dives right in with heart, hunger, and a whole lot of charm. Following her debut “Dear Ex Lover,” the Burlington, Ontario native is back with another tune, straight out of a page ripped straight from a teenager’s diary, sealed with glitter and a sigh.
“Butterflies” opens with sparkly, cloud-soft melodies that sound like daydreams set to music. Abbey’s high vocals float over the beat as if she’s lost in a love so new, it’s got her head spinning and her stomach fluttering. Think bedroom-pop meets teen romance montage. It’s intimate, wistful, and dripping with that dizzying excitement of falling hard and fast.
As the track moves forward, the production shifts gears. The beats hit a little harder, the synths swell, and Abbey’s voice becomes more urgent, as if those butterflies she was cooing about earlier are full-on erupting inside her. She captures that emotional crescendo of infatuation turning into obsession, like she can barely contain the feelings that are bubbling over.
What really stands out is Abbey’s storytelling. Inspired by artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Gracie Abrams, she’s already showing a knack for mixing heartfelt honesty with catchy hooks. Her lyrics are so personalized and confessional, you get the sense she’s feeling every word.
Produced under the wing of Roy Hamilton III and The Singers Company, “Butterflies” is a solid second single with the voice, the vulnerability, and the vision. Listen to it on Spotify.
