Cairns-born alt-pop riser Abi Muir arrives at Be Social Fest this year not just as an opener, but as an artist stepping fully into her voice. To mark her appearance supporting Winston Surfshirt and opening the main stage the following day, she releases her new single โC.O.N. (Crazy Obsessively Needy)โ that leans all the way into the thing she was once shamed for: loving too much.
Produced by Ghostpops, the song is sleek, cinematic alt-pop that balances glossy beats with her unfettered authenticity that lays bare her heart for all to reach. The production shimmers and pulses with the dreamy synth haze underneath a heartbeat-like rhythm, while Abiโsย sensual, soft, high voice comes through, as she sings delicately and vulnerably. Hereโs no attempt to smooth her feelings into something palatable. Instead, she magnifies them, turns them into a weapon.
Her lyrics are biting not because theyโre aggressive, but because theyโre true. She sings, โI keep one of your shirts in the back of my car in case you try to leave me,โ which comes off quite relatable with the way women love their partnersโ clothes to wear or smell. She holds the insecurity up to the light without flinching. In the chorus, she sings, โtell me you need me more than you need oxygen,โ pleading with control dressed as a power move.
Rather than apologizing for attachment or codependency, Abi blows it up to pop-anthem scale. The song doesnโt judge her. It doesnโt resolve the ache. It lets it be loud.
โC.O.N.โ marks a new era for Abi Muir: bolder, sharper, more self-aware, and defiantly unashamed. If someone calls her needy again, sheโll probably just write another hit about it โ and make sure weโre all singing along.
