Catfish by Jennifer Alvarado: Review
Artistically-inclined North Carolinian Jennifer Alvarado writes and performs music that can bring out the spirit of country rock in anyone. She has received local acclaim for her songwriting, and in the spring of 2021 and 2022, she was selected “One to Watch” by the Nashville Songwriters Association. Indie Star Radio has announced that she is their “2021 Country Artist of the Year.” Jennifer’s track “Catfish” is a truly groovy tune with strong guitars and banjo arrangements, that accompany her beautifully resonant voice.
There’s a certain swing element in “Catfish” that ties in nicely with the track’s country rock roots. Jennifer manages to deliver a truly catchy and gripping performance with her voice. She truly knows how to command an audience it seems, and the expression in her voice shows. Aside from Jennifer’s stellar vocals, the guitars have a divine element in them. From classic rock guitar solos to riffs made of steel, all the sequences contribute to a solid guitar playthrough. The bass and percussion pieces carry a heavy weight that makes Jennifer’s vocal pieces and the harmonies stand out, and with a genuine tone of energy too.
I truly enjoyed the elements of bluegrass that is present at the entrance of the track. I would just like to mention the desert-style banjo playing style, all the notes being played made me feel like I was an outlaw on the run riding a buggy of choice. All the while, the music of “Catfish” has an attitude and will make anyone feel empowered and a notion that they own the room they walk into.
