Chromatose by JUNK: EP Review
Jazz and funk bond together in JUNK’s diverse EP “Chromatose.” Mixing eccentric saxophone sequences, with weighty bass arrangements, the artist has a lot to offer in the funk hemisphere. So let’s dive right in to grasp just how well this EP’s genre fusion worked out!
The album opens up with the title track, the epic drumming sequence has such a vibe and keeps the tempo solid. There’s a heavy bass portion where the saxophone intertwines and overall it’s a fine essence of musical dynamism. In more soothing arrangements such as the one in “Chill Pill” the tempo changes a bit and enters a swirl of bass solos! Overall, it still maintains the bravado of JUNK’s musical diversity. From what I understood, the artist enjoys a mish-mash of classic funk and modern jazz that blends with any genre.
The last track is a trippy melody that anyone would resonate with. “Frogadelic” combines the characteristics of classical piano, symphonies, samples, and tribal-style beats. In its entirety, the track takes on a wild journey. All in all the EP was a tasty mix of fruitful melodies that any avid fan of jazz and funk would find common ground in. What I enjoyed the most was the instrumental chemistry between the bass lines and saxophone bits. The most surprising bit was during the opening track when heavy metal enters the premise one moment, and then suddenly transitions into a classical segment the next.
