Cinema Sounds by Blueprint Tokyo: EP Review
The short EP Cinema Sounds by Blueprint Tokyo consists of 3 tracks – tiny as it may sound, but with endless possibilities. So strap on because there’s a lot I want to say about this EP today!
The synth-driven single, “Say Anything,” is a terrific introduction to their music, which is gloomy with rays of sunshine. Everything is ambient, perfect to listen to at any time of the day because of the simultaneous retro yet futuristic feel. My ears were pleased by the aggressive drumming and memorable riffs, and I was taken aback by the unexpected sadness of the dual vocals, which overlap and sing passionately. Lyrically, “LaRusso” is complex enough to evoke a melancholy state of mind, and the song’s combination of traditional and modern musical elements does a fine job of evoking that feeling. You can’t help but go back to the ’90s retro indie bands, with the kind of intensity that this album brings. Every riff and drum fill remains an absolute banger. The edgy, chaotic flavor of “Sailor Girl” can be contagious to anyone who hears it. The reverberating voices create a chill atmosphere that makes you want to sing along. The jazzy saxophone adds a pleasant dimension to the rocking sound, making you want to give yourself a lustful adrenaline rush.
While each of the three singles has its own unique personality, taken together they conjure an ethereal world rich in beautiful cadences as they fade out. The Oklahoma band creates a gorgeous panorama of dreamy sounds and luxuriant sensations while still managing to pack an EP full of indie pop thrill.
