Austin-based alternative rock band Arctic Wave returns with a vengeance on their blistering new single “Circus,” released October 24, 2025. The song is a gut-punch of a wall of fire and distortion, alongside raw emotion and observation of all the mess we have made. Written by the band’s founder and songwriter C.L. Turner and produced by Will Hensley (Coldplay, Regina Spektor), the track captures the absurdity of a world spinning wildly out of control while we all try to keep our balance under the big top of reality.
“Circus” stays calm with a steady tap of percussion and a soft, subdued melody that is like catching your breath before the storm. The vocals enters with a weary, shell-shocked tone, singing reflectively like someone who’s seen too much. Exhausted but resolved he’s still standing even when the tent’s collapsing.
Then, without warning, the guitars begin to grind and slither, tightening like a noose. The drums build from taps into a pounding fury, propelling the song into full combustion. Layers of sound climb up with distorted riffs clawing at the edges, strings swelling from the background like smoke from a fire that won’t die. The vocals grow more impassioned, almost accusatory, as he spits out lines about the “leaders” and “clown shows” that define the current circus we call society.
By the climax, chaos and melody collide in cinematic fashion. The roar of instruments cuts through a sample of John F. Kennedy’s iconic line, “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country,” which really says a lot about how when the country leaders are failing us, we have to put them in their place since they are the real losers.
“Circus” is a mirror held up to the madness, which Arctic Wave won’t let you look away from anymore. So go take a look on Spotify.
