Do you love suspense? Do you love Hitchcock films? We are assuming itโs a yes, so hereโs what you are also going to love. Crybaby by Mia Morminoโ An instant banger that is going to get you thrilled. Because Crybaby expresses frustration as vehemently as possible. What we didnโt expect from this teen pop song though, was to covet a suspenseful world of horror in its impassioned dissatisfied tirade. Mia infers, we donโt always get what we want.
Crybaby represents this dramatic irony with the EDM synth beats that get deeper and goes harder after Mia starts her first verse with loathful stoicism in her voice. In the pre hook, the suspense really hits.
We find Mia the most vocally frustrated in the hook as she loses grasp of the logic she demonstrated in the pre hook: I am the first to say/ If lifeโs not going your way/ Itโs on you to make some changes.
In the later verse, you will also find another allusion of a horror suspense imagery with a distant cry as the EDM beats hit hard alone without the chorus bass and cymbals. Other than the exceptionally orchestrated musicals, Mia has also made great use of her husky voice with the cold cut tone in Crybaby.
And if you missed the other clues as to why Mia may not be succeeding yet, just give this line a listen:ย โA girl who shows her body/ And likes singing as a hobby/ That girl will never be me.โ Yes, sheโs critiquing the music industry. The amount of things she has effortlessly done in one song is beyond apprehension for a newcomer in the industry.
