Curious by Jennifer Alvarado: Review
Hailing from North Carolina, Jennifer Alvarado has been a familiar name with Illustrate Magazine readers as the singer/songwriter had an exclusive interview with us not so long ago. This year she is putting out her highly-anticipated second album “Songbird” with the first single titled “Curious”. The track won “Best Pop Song” and “Best Overall Song” at the Winter Indie Songwriting Awards for 2022 and we can easily understand why. It has won over our hearts as well with her velvety, sweet, compelling vocal and a heartfelt story.
At first listen, you may think it’s just another country ballad about love until the lyrics start to kick in. Sensitive and detailed in her writing, she deep dives into the delicate moments in the start of a relationship, brimming with excitement and butterflies in your stomach, with hope alongside fear, with a sense of yearning alongside confusion. Her voice comfortably shines on top of the mellow beat and pulls us to the point where you find yourself asking the same question:
“One kiss will quickly lead to two
If our guards all came down
And we don’t try to stop this now
Do you ever wonder what could happen too?”
In another interview, she shared that it was probably one of the quickest songs she has ever written, and the song was “like that tightrope conversation of wanting more, but also remaining within bounds”.
Since the release of “Curious”, Jennifer has offered another glimpse into her upcoming album with the second single “Rock This Way”. You can check both of them out before the official arrival of the album this summer. We can’t wait to hear it!
