The first thing that first enraptured me from Cybele by High Protein was its intriguing cover art. The electronica trackโs cover art highlights CYBELE, written in neon font, over a Tokyo alley backdrop. Itโs the perfect allusion to cyberpunk, dystopian, and electronica vibes. But what we donโt expect is an atmosphere hallowing musical experience that Cybele provides with its chunky electronic discordant synths, industrial drums, and a male voice wailing and chanting in Middle Eastern over it sometimes. The result? Goosebumps! We are left with a chilling perception of suspense and spook.
To emit such vivid imagery and poignant soundwaves, Cybele had a promising new Sydney-based producer and artist, High Protein. How High Protein mixes tribal elements with dystopian music was also fascinating. The hard-hitting tribal drums and percussion joined to create a menacing musical euphony beside the EDM beat, so we are left with an amalgamation of Oriental and Middle Eastern musical fusion.
The song has a groovy and upbeat rhythm driven by a funky bass line and a steady drum beat. The bass line creates a sense of momentum that propels the song forward, while the drums add a sense of stability and structure. This rhythmic foundation creates a strong backbone for the song.
The songโs structure is also worth noting. It follows a fairly standard verse-chorus-bridge format, but it is well-crafted and allows each section to build and release tension in a satisfying way. The bridge section, in particular, is a standout moment in the song, with its electronic effects and vocal harmonies creating a dynamic and engaging sound.
