16-year-old lead singer and songwriter Melina Hazewood released her song bop song “Dear Boy” on the 1st of March 2024. Do not let her young age fool you, as this talented young songwriter is sophisticated in delivering music and has achieved great accomplishments for it, such as winning the best singer-songwriter award at the Golden Voices International Singing Contest and six of her songs being given a maximum five stars at the UKSC singer-songwriter contest.
We usually start off with “Dear” when writing a letter to someone, and this song seems like Melina’s way of writing a letter to her “Dear Boy” to write to him what she cannot say out loud.
“Dear boy, you don’t know much more than my name” expresses that this boy Melina wants to “get out of her mind” loves her on a superficial level and does not take time to get to know the real her.
“Dear Boy” is a playful song, and in all three verses of this song, Melissa writes her “Dear Boy” multiple one-sentence letters, trying to talk some sense into him, saying goodbye to him and the unrealistic perception he has of her in the final verse. She can finally be herself and not play “goddess” with him.
While being a relatively new and young artist, Melina Hazewood will definitely make more waves in this industry so stay tuned to see what more she will bring to the table in the foreseeable future!
