Mystic, CTโs own indie pop/shoegaze outfit Delta of Venus have stepped into the spotlight with their hauntingly poetic first music video, โDisengaged b/w Slipping,โ released alongside their debut Double A-Side Single on November 26, 2024. This long-form visual project is a cinematic reimagining of Joan of Arc, had she survived past her martyrdom and led a modern-day feminist resistance in the chilly, dreamlike streets of Mystic.
Filmed between January 14 and March 11, 2025, the video features models Fiona, Emma, Maya, Izzy N., Nora, and Issy P. Across the video, we see women in fencing masks and flowing nightgowns haunting a gray, vintage New England landscape. Dressed in Victorian silhouettes or dramatic goth-inspired attire, the models move between crumbling woods and grand interiors, seated on antique chairs or drifting down desolate roads.
โDisengaged,โ the first half of the single, enters with shimmering guitars and steady, thumping drums. The vocals, delivered with aching fragility by Issy, float and fracture against the instrumentalsโemotional, delicate, and self-aware. Itโs a slow, glowing breakup, be it with themselves or a relationship that is hovering over their identity.
โIt was nice to have you here, but I think I need myself for a change,โ she singsโan anthem for reclaiming space, cloaked in shoegaze shimmer.
The track gradually gives way to Slipping, the b-side that doubles down on emotional gravity. Moody, fuzzy guitars and deep bass brood under Issyโs voice as it trails hypnotically through layers of sound. The transition between the two songs is seamless, drawing the listener deeper into the emotional fog.
โHold on, let go, Iโm slipping,โ comes like a soft spiral into surrender.
Both tracks were written and recorded with care: vocals by Issy, guitars by Ellery Twining, bass and sequencing by Mat Tarbox, and drums by Shawn Fake. The mesmerizing music video of โDisengaged b/w Slippingโ from Delta of Venus is available on YouTube.
