The Gerry Farrow Band has released a heartfelt and introspective EP, Drink (To the Music in My Head). This EP, fronted by UK-based singer-songwriter Gerry Farrow on acoustic guitar and vocals, Rob Bullock on lead guitar, gets behind life with the themes of suffering, then battling it with gratitude and getting away from it to experience love and life.
“Drink (To the Music in My Head),” the title track sets the tone with its insightful, soothing, and warm message of being grateful for the memories that you had. Melodic guitars and tapping drums provide a gentle backdrop for Farrow’s heartfelt, earnest, raspy vocals.
“Giving Up” transitions to a more melancholic and relaxing guitar line, with Farrow’s voice soaring heartbreakingly. The song gets deep into exhaustion and resignation, reflecting on the struggle to find common ground and the realization that sometimes, it’s best to let go.
With intriguing drum tapping, “Be Someone Else” is for the busybodies to reignite the spark and escape the pressures of daily life. The storytelling is poignant, emphasizing the need to reconnect with one’s partner and rediscover the spontaneity that brought them together.
Closing Drink (To the Music in My Head), “All the Misfits” presents a mysterious and sombre tone with a churning guitar solo in the bridge. Farrow sings hazily and airily and exchanges the normalcy with the solace found during the stillness of lockdown. Lyrics like “I will be sitting here with all the misfits trying to make it on our own” capture the essence of feeling disconnected yet finding companionship in shared struggles.
