Ellery Twining has just released his latest single, “Dusty Springfield’s Record Collection,” the YouTube video of which was released this Aug 17. If you love, Dusty Springfield, this intimate and reflective tribute to the iconic singer, released as part of his critically acclaimed solo debut album RESULTS is a definite dig.
Produced and Recorded over a couple of months by Eric M. Lichter for Dirt Floor Recording & Production Haddam, CT, “Dusty Springfield’s Record Collection” features instrumental elements. The song has a relaxing, reflective steely strum in the guitar while the drums beat rhythmically, creating a groove and momentum. The brooding bass guitar really sets the mood and grounds us in the ambience. So, it all comes together nicely and upliftingly.
Twining’s spoken-word performance adds a layer of personal depth to the track, as he reminisces about his connection to Dusty Springfield’s music and the significance of her record collection. His introductory lines, “A pop star simply getting on with it/Sells her record collection/I was there to catalog it all” show us how it all started, as well as the passion that goes behind it.
The music video complements the song’s reflective tone. Directed by Michelle Gemma, the video follows a young fan as she searches for Dusty Springfield’s records at Mystic Disc, a record store in Downtown Mystic, CT USA. It’s such a nonchalant and nostalgic way of introducing the artist being tributed.
Twining’s “Dusty Springfield’s Record Collection” is a heartfelt tribute to a beloved musical icon. Definitely check it out on YouTube.
