Eggshell Minefield (Single) by Dream of a Man in a Top Hat: Review
Can you relate to the feeling of “walking on eggshells” with someone, that has always lurked without you being able to express it? Combine that with a panic-inducing minefield, and you get a near-to-impossible experience – which is the righteous theme of “Eggshell Minefield”. It’s the latest talk of the town for psychedelic fans who love a groovy mix to their favorite genre.
Lee Leffler and Michael Frackleton, the duo behind Dream of a Man in a Top Hat, are peas of the same pod with their quirky, pop-punk vision created from an amalgamation of instrumentals, laced by what some would call psychedelic vocals.
“Eggshell Minefield” is their fourth release in EP town, which combines peculiar keyboard musicals, intertwined with an alt-rock anthem from consistent percussions and a powerful electric guitar solo. The performance merges recollections of the past and anticipations of the future together. Frankly, it all comes together a little chaotic, yet remains seductively retro in a unique manner. There’s a pulsating rock sound that flirts with psychedelia, and the story remains compelling with a relentless rhythm, almost marching you through the song, while the guitars rasp across it in a little more violent rock flow.
With this song, Boston-based Dream of a Man in a Top Hat has proven that it’s capable of much more! This was my first time listening to Leffler and Frackleton’s captivating echoing vocals, and they’ve piqued my interest enough to look forward to what else they might have in store for their pop-punk fans in the future.
