Ella Mar drops stirring new track titled ‘High Anyway’
The song was written as a love letter for people who use self-medication to treat their mental illness. It was produced by Shahar Elisof and written and composed by Ella Mar. It will be Ella’s first album in nearly three years, a period in which the pandemic only made this problem more urgent and pervasive. Ella wants to convey the kind of all-encompassing haziness that these experiences entail so that, ultimately, listeners who can identify with them feel less alone. She does this by relying on an anthemic chorus, vocal layering, and heavy 80s synths.
The retro aesthetic of the song is reflected in the music video that goes with it. Ella’s teddy bear comes to life and develops into a metaphorical, complex character in this distorted fantasy setting.
