Ellie Martin released tuneful new song ‘Step Into Your Essence’
Ellie Martin, a vocalist and composer, combines a wide range of musical influences, including jazz, pop, Latin, and singer-songwriter styles, into her debut album, Verdant. The Grammy-nominated pianist, vocalist, and songwriter Peter Eldridge, the Brazilian accordionist Vitor Gonçalves, the multi-reed instrumentalist Andrew Bishop, the trumpeter Ben Wolkins, the bassist Kurt Krahnke, the drummer Dr. Olman Piedra, and the Israeli guitarist Ariel Kasler are all featured on the album, which is scheduled for independent release on May 12th, 2023. Along with the release of her album, Martin also released the upbeat pop jazz song ‘Step Into Your Essence’, which was influenced by the likes of Donny Hathaway, Jo Lawry, and Rachael Price and celebrates self-acceptance and self-love.
Ellie Martin was raised singing and was born in Florida in 1985. She earned her bachelor’s degree from McGill University in classical voice performance before deciding to pursue a master’s degree in jazz voice at the University of Toledo. She studied under Dr. Nathan Davis and Professor Geri Allen at the University of Pittsburgh, where she received her PhD in Jazz Studies in 2016. Martin is a mother of two, a composer, and a frequent performer in the Detroit area. Performances at the Michigan Jazz Festival, Sunset Jazz Festival, and Pittsburgh Jazz Festival rank among the highlights of a career. She performed with jazz greats like Geri Allen, Terri Lynne Carrington, Esperanza Spalding, the New York Voices, Jon Hendricks, and Afro Blue with the National Arab Orchestra in San Antonio, Texas. She is a unique and distinctive educator and performer due to her background in jazz studies and performance.
