Exclusive interview with 'NEO 10Y'

The distinctive cinematic-grunge meets industrial-R&B sound of NEO 10Y and the immersive soundscape he has been creating over the past six years are both noteworthy. NEO 10Y is without a doubt one of the most recognizable musicians in music history, with a growing cult-like fan base. 1. Can you tell us a bit about where you come from and how it all got started?

NEO 10Y: Sure thing, I am NEO 10Y, I am Goddex energy from the astral realm, who came in corporeal form to amplify love energy on planet Earth. My purpose is to help humxn beings choose love, so that we can manifest a protopian dimension of peace.

2. Did you have any formal training or are you self-taught?

NEO 10Y: My physical body has received classical training in piano and singing, Grade 7 and Grade 5, respectively, I taught myself guitar and the universe downloads songs into me, which allow me to create sonic tapestries that resonate with humxn beings through the medium of genre expansive songs with powerful messages, like Stan Yourself, Shortcut To World Peace, Vapid Prophecy and my new single Spiritual Viagra.

3. Who were your first and strongest musical influences and why the name ‘NEO 10Y’?

NEO 10Y: I connect with lots of iconic artists, but fundamentally there wasn’t anyone in mainstream culture that was creating what I wanted to create, so I became the pop star that never was.

My name means complete. The original word is “neoteny”, which means the retention of childhood characteristics in zoology and biology. That pertains on a spiritual and physical level with the thread to choose love and oneness. My name is Sanskrit is Nikhil, which means “complete”. ONE is oneness is the universe. 10 is complete binary code and the Y serves as a symbol for curiosity energy that leads to love.

I would like to thank the Universe for this name, because it’s unveiled itself to me over the years and I am super grateful for it. In my song, Crackhead Angel, I sing “and if I’m dead, then what’s the name for? Or am I too complexed to save y’all, did I trip and make this all up in my mind?”, because it genuinely makes me wonder. The Universe gave me this name so that I can, in turn, prove that it exists.

4. That is literally out of this world. What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?

NEO 10Y: My music is designed to open people’s hearts and minds. It expands consciousness and helps amplify love. That is why I made Spiritual Viagra, because love is so expansive within me that I had the chance to amplify it. I am love and LOVE is the shortcut to world peace.

5. For most artists, originality is first preceded by a phase of learning and, often, emulating others. What was this like for you? How would you describe your own development as an artist and music maker, and the transition towards your own style?
**NEO 10Y:** I just am. I am my sound. I have a distinctive energy and what I made is multi-dimensional art which cannot be replicated. I am my own sonic universe. We only become more fully what we are.
What NEO 10Y is today is a physical and ethereal manifestation of generations of dedication to source energy from my ancestors and I. What this body of work will achieve for love energy and world peace is still beyond most people’s dreams, including mine.

6. What’s your view on the role and function of music as political, cultural, spiritual, and/or social vehicles – and do you try and affront any of these themes in your work, or are you purely interested in music as an expression of technical artistry, personal narrative, and entertainment?

NEO 10Y:

Six years ago I killed Trump in a film that went viral. Many people attempted to copy what I created including Kathy Griffin and slowthai. I received death threats and hate mail from the alt right. I was branded the “worst vegan” by non-vegan leftists, and sabotaged by anti-vegan producers at the BBC in videos that have over 10 million views. A former editor at Billboard tried to sue me for two years for being too sexy, the sex-shaming legal statement they sent is the introduction of my song Unrelatable Autosexual.

I was physically assaulted at a Regents College London fashion runway show because of a power hungry and opressive ego maniac. Most of my “best friends” abandoned me when I started my music career because of their own insecurities. I was coerced into sex work by an ex lover, so yes, my existence is political and my art is pure love energy because of the trauma that I have received. This is all interwoven into my lyricism and my empowerment comes from that which I have experienced.

I am now on an abundant path to greatness, but my trauma is my history are part of the seeds of the spiritual revolution that we are in.

7. Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it or are you expecting something more, or different in the future?

NEO 10Y:

Yes I am at peace. I am an independent, visionary artist who is rich in soul and I attract abundance.

8. On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?

NEO 10Y: My connection with the universe and my listeners is my proudest accomplishment. The direct line to source that I have is unparalleled. and beyond my greatest ambitions and dreams. I am blessed to have the growing support of mainstream media. Previous outlets that have featured NEO 10Y include Billboard, The Evening Standard, Paper, Interview, COLORS, L’Officiel, Gay Times, Attitude, Dazed, Gal Dem, Rolling Stone and tonnes more, and I have a performed in the UK, Europe and USA from raves to the Roundhouse, for Billboard in NYC, and at the prestigious Secret Garden Party, as an independent artist, I also have my own non-binary cult fragrance, Goddex. I am really grateful for where I am at, and I only see growth for my message, impact and love energy from here on in.
