Falling by Amy Ellen: Review
Dublin-based artist Amy Ellenโs sound combines elements of soft rock, dream pop, and the underground music movement of the โ90s. Amyโs tender song โFalling,โ deals with the theme of being stuck in an unfulfilling relationship. The songโs lyrical mood of gloom is countered by the upbeat vibe created by the guitar, and the drummerโs force.
Amy dazzles her way onto the rock scene with a very alluring voice. Hearing โFallingโ made me think about the chain of memories tied within my innocent youth. I believe thatโs because the alternative rock sequences in the track accompany a heavy dose of gain and teen angst. It makes your brain go into a frenzy of thoughts pertaining to love, and everything that is lovable. The guitar arrangements of the track have that 90s edge. This is because the style of playing, the riffs of choice, and the tone all feel like a time machine to the early days of the alternative and grunge scene.
Thereโs an abundance of aspects that makes โFallingโ such a stellar track. But, when it comes down to it, it is how Amyโs voice makes you feel. Anyone can sing a note or two, but itโs the breathtaking presence of a queen that manages to put a smile on your face. She does this through soothing โoohsโ and โaahsโ from the harmony bits, also at the end of the song where she sings the songโs title over and over again to make that word a proper sentiment to remember in our hearts as the days go by.
