FANCEY SHARES NEW SINGLE “OUT ON THE STREETS AGAIN”
The second song from Vancouver’s Fancey’s next album, Star Dreams, which will be released on August 19, 2022, is “Out On The Streets Again.” “The song, like many others, is mostly about loneliness, but it also yearns for the times when going out on a Friday night was exciting because you never knew who you would run into,” says Todd Fancey, frontman of the Fancy band and former guitarist for The New Pornographers. No texting or dating apps; only seeking for action. It resembles a song about getting ready to go out in some ways.”
The first single from Star Dreams, “I Am Starfire,” was released last month by Fancy.
The New Pornographers’ frontman and veteran guitarist Todd Fancey describes “I Am Starfire” as “kind of a Joan of Arc in Space female revenge dream.” Micae entered the room to perform the song and sang an octave lower than I had anticipated, but I loved it and pushed her to use her low voice frequently on the record. The words, which you won’t believe, were taken from a poem I was composing on the San Diego Chicken, a well-known mascot from the 1970s and 1980s. There is a lot of information about the rising sun in the east and its ability to bring about rejuvenation.
Stoner Disco Records will release Fancey’s Star Dreams on August 19, 2022.
Todd Fancey, a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer best known as the longtime guitarist for the indie rock band The New Pornographers, now performs as Fancey. On the upcoming album Star Dreams by Fancey, Micae of Vancouver sings, while drummer Joe Seiders of The New Pornographers plays the DX-7 electric piano and synthesizer. Fancey looks back at the early 1980s pop constellations in Star Dreams. The Korg Poly synthesizer and Oberheim drum machine were among the antique equipment used exclusively for the album’s construction in the 1980s. Star Dreams was created in Vancouver by Todd Fancey with assistance from Crosstown Studios owner Allan Rodger.
“Star Dreams” was inspired by a lyric in our song “Fantasy in Love,” according to Fancey.
“Mainly, dreams of distant places, anything other than the 9 to 5 workaday life, staring at the sky and experiencing amazing feelings.”
