Lyndo Jaco turns the uncertainty of chasing a win into something gritty, warm and slightly surreal with “Feeling.” A solo singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Jaco draws from the Southern and hard rock of the past.
The song opens into grinding, gritty guitars, their rough textures giving the track a grounded heaviness. Sparkling, bustling drums move underneath, adding motion without overwhelming the arrangement. At the centre of it all, Jaco’s husky, light voice cuts through with an engaging ease, giving the performance a curious contrast: the instrumentation feels weighty, while the vocal remains relatively airy and approachable. That balance keeps “Feeling” moving rather than allowing its darker edges to become too imposing.
There is also something deliberately odd about the song’s perspective. Its story follows someone supporting a sports team through the rough patches, searching desperately for that winning feeling, while another thread circles around money and the journey of a bungling thief. Jaco seems to look at life through a distorted lens, as though everything is unfolding inside a giant sandpit. It gives the song an almost trippy quality, where desperation, humour and hope can exist side by side.
Recorded in a home studio overlooking a garden, “Feeling” also reflects Jaco’s effort to make his newer material warmer and less cluttered. New bass and guitar amps give the instruments a more distinctive presence, allowing the arrangement to breathe while retaining its rough rock character.
At the end of the day, “Feeling” is about wanting something badly enough to keep going, even when the odds look ridiculous. Jaco makes that pursuit sound messy, strange and infectious.
