For the First Time, FEMM’s Newest Albums Are Now Available on CD
Neo Tokyo’s sentient pop mannequins FEMM have released their current two studio albums on CD for the first time, ahead of their European and UK tour in July.
FEMM stunned fans at the start of the year by releasing not one, but two full-length albums digitally within days of each other, following up their 2014 debut hit album Femm-Isation (streamed over 15 million times worldwide).
Tokyo Ex Machina is the most recent of the two albums. Despite the album’s apocalyptic cover art by award-winning cyber punk visionary Liam Wong, it contains ten tunes that focus on FEMM’s exuberant and cutesy electro-pop side. Nicki Minaj and Ke$her producer Kool Kojak provide catchy and cute pop vibes on the album’s lead track, ‘We Got Each Other;’ Woo Min Lee’s dreamy pop beats on ‘Outta The Clouds,’ plus a track featuring future pop vocalist LIZ make this album a must-have for fans of unapologetic pop anthems from some of the most exciting forces in eastern and western pop right now make this album a must-
The other new album, Tokyo Girls Anthem, focuses on FEMM’s aggressive side, which was first explored with the viral smash “Fxxk Boyz Get Money.” It includes dark pop trip ‘Mental Health,’ which features guest vocals from upcoming Japanese hip hop star Yup’in, frantic electro track ‘Peach,’ co-produced by PC Music and Rina Sawayama collaborator Danny L Harle, and the album’s empowering title track, which was co-written in part by DaBaby / Lil Uzi Vert collaborator Star Boy, among others.
To coincide with the release of Tokyo Girls Anthem and Tokyo Ex Machina on CD, London label JPU Records has also re-released FEMM’s debut Femm-Isation, as well as the EP PoW! / L.C.S., which includes tracks only accessible in physical format.
JPU Records has released all four CDs. FEMM’s cover album 80s / 90s J-POP REVIVAL, which features their reinterpretations of iconic Japanese pop tunes, is also available on CD and cassette via the label. The latest EP, 404 Not Found, was released on MiniDisc only and has already sold out, although it is still accessible to listen to digitally.
