Golden Hour by Freyja Elsy: Review
The soft, sweet melodies of “Golden Hour” is a truly illuminating experience that one must encounter themselves. Freyja Elsy is an epic revelation for me, and I can’t wait to give you an imaginative rundown of her 3 minute 12-second track.
The song is a unique record that I’ve come across after a long time. I’m particularly fond of her singing, which is euphonious. The voice at the forefront is Freyja, a goddess in golden silk in my mind because her voice flows so gracefully and is as smooth as butter. What gives it a whole other dimension are the harmonious vocals, layered expertly to the leading voice. It overflows, giving off the same energy as the sun’s different rays emitted from various angles, gracing the earth with life. It made me think of that magical scene when Shuri experiences the underwater city of Talokan.
Quotable lyrics:
“It’s not enough
To stand by oceans still
But fear is mine
The fear is mine to kill
My cup overflowed
Water, it ran empty
Grief for the light at rest
Relief for the pain in my chest”
I particularly enjoy that second verse. But the entirety of the song made me go for the loop button because my main complaint about “Golden Hour” is it is too short! This is a rare phenomenon for me when it comes to experiencing new music, so I hope when you check it out, you’ll feel the same.
