Guns to a Playground Fight by Gabrielle Zwi: Review
“Guns to a Playground Fight” by Gabrielle Zwi is a song about the shooting that happens in schools, and this particular song was inspired by the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas. Also, how does it feel to be a child growing up in a school shooting generation or environment?
“Guns to a Playground Fight” starts off with a tropical-sounding tune with acoustic guitar and bass guitar, and then comes the dreamy vocal, which goes hand in hand with the acoustic guitar and bass. The simple bass line compliments the whole track. The composition is made up of acoustic guitar, bass, and the vocal, and they go so well with each other that it did not need any other instruments. The delivery of the vocal is very impressive, with the yodeling and intensity of their voice . They wrote the lyrics right after the shooting at Robb Elementary School, it was a way for them to process and reflect on their final experience as students.
A soothing composition that feels the heart as well as the power of the lyrics on how she survived her school years without being killed in a shooting, which is a major trauma for the students. Also, how the artist tackled the dark and heavy topic of school shootings with such musical finesse filled with emotions and personal experiences is really impressive and intriguing at the same time.
