(Hardly) Lucky by World Government: Review
Luck comes in many forms. Sometimes we get lucky out of nowhere, sometimes we are out of luck at inopportune moments. Being lucky is not a straightforward concept and World Government has brilliantly portrayed different shades of being ‘lucky’ (seven versions) in one album. Being lucky indeed is such a broad concept that it is not easy to convey the whole message in one song and the band has done a fantastic job breaking it down into smaller and more definite circumstances.
(Hardly) Lucky is the fourth song of the album ‘Lucky’ released on april 29, 2022 from OMNINORM records. The title of the song tells you a lot about the song itself. The lyrics are a bit sarcastic, telling us that it is not just luck that has brought us where we are today; Sometimes we just accept our situations and make it work. The instruments used in the song are very coherent and suits the song well. The tombs sound great in the bridge building up to the outro. The vocals are perfectly mixed and has the perfect quality to shine over the distorted guitars.
The song like all other songs in the album has a music video and the visuals are contemplating and puzzling. It will require a viewer to watch all the videos to get a clear idea as all seven videos have some reappearing images. Overall the band has done a stellar job writing this song. They have taken a different approach to song writing as songs are not usually not long enough to convey an entire idea. If you have not thought about different forms of getting ‘lucky’ this song and the entire album would do it for you: all you have to do is listen and enjoy.
