If you are a non-conformist yourself, you should love the EP ‘Heartbreak in Movements’ by Alexa Lash, which goes beyond the boundaries of music writing with the pattern of the chorus hardly following a sequence. In your first listen of “Heartbreak in Movements,” the diaristic lyrical composition will stand out a mile amidst Alexa’s rich yet throaty voice. The song makes a fervent attempt at a tirade for the music that sets a score on her timbre.
The EP consists of 5 tracks, each resonating with a feeling of desolation from anxiety, self-doubt, heartbreak, yearning for a past love, and endeavoring to end a toxic relationship. All the while, the instrumentals were orchestrated with classical elements with the likes of piano, violin, and cello to evoke a more cinematic impact to her mezzo voice and dramatic tone.
With the first track, “Not Fine,” Alexa takes us to the realm of her self-doubt, mental issues, and lack of support, as she sings, she is just playing pretend. The 3rd track, “Miracles,” is another portrayal of her mental issues, with anxiety being the highlight of them all. Moving onto the next track and the 4th and 5th tracks, we find Alexa singing about being weak for her lover, with whom she feels lost as the relationship falls apart. The next depicts her being swung back in with her partner’s lies. MIA, the showstopper of the bunch, features the longing to go back.
On the other hand, the cover art of the EP, “Heartbreak in Movements,” features Alexa Lash in the middle, surrounded by various elements conveying the evils within us and us suffocating in consequence even as we are capable of elucidating the wisdom standing abreast the toxicity we hide.
