Hamburg-based singer-songwriter Sabrina Nejmah might have been born in 2008, but on “I Can’t Love You” she’s already writing like someone who’s seen the internet at its ugliest and refuses to shrug it off. Following her 2025 debut “Deep End,” this new 2026 single tackles a very modern horror story of finding out the sweet, attentive friend who brings you flowers is also an anonymous online troll spewing hate when your back is turned. Instead of going full sermon, Sabrina laces the whole thing with wit, dark irony, and a hooky alt-pop sheen that goes down easy—until you really listen.
Musically, the track walks a clever tightrope. It opens with vivid, shimmery melodies and bright strumming guitars riding on top of thumping beats, setting up what sounds like a classic teenage crush song. Sabrina’s voice is delicate and high, gushing softly as she lists all the reasons everyone assumes this person must be in love with her. There’s the kind smile, the jokes, the thoughtful presents, the late-night “how are you?” calls. It’s all very cute… on the surface.
Then she flips the script. Her delivery sharpens, growing more assertive as she pulls back the curtain in her line, “When I’m not with you, you’re a hater.” The chorus hits with a simple, brutally honest refrain, “I can’t love you ’cause you’re misbehaving.” She calls out the online abuse plainly, the insults, calls for violence, and zero respect. The sweetness of the verses makes the disgust in lines like “all my friends agree you’re an asshole” hit even harder—because she’s returning the tone back at her, but with the truth.
Midway through, an electric guitar solo winds over the pounding drums, giving the track a little rock bite before she returns to drive the message home that love and hate don’t cancel each other out. By the time she snaps, “And I hate haters,” “I Can’t Love You” has turned into a sharp little anthem for anyone done romanticizing people who are kind in person but cruel behind a screen.
