Produced by Sam Santcroos with an all-star team, including Grammy Award-winning intellectuals behind the music, Forever Searching’s “I Don’t Think I Love You Anymore” is a dream-pop descent into the abyss of a fading romance.
Released this May 21, the song opens soothingly and unsettlingly with a dark guitar chime over a ticking beat. The drums slowly build their rhythm and pull our brain waves to rise and fall in sync with the beats as we grow numb.
The vocalist’s hazy, high delivery has us floating through a dream, beautiful but tinged with a strange dread. “I Don’t Think I Love You Anymore/But I Don’t Care, I Don’t Care,” the vocalist croons amidst the melancholic paradox, his voice laced with a subtle vulnerability.
The hazy backing vocals layer behind the vocals, creating an emotional fog. The more you listen to the singer, the more you get entranced. Then you feel the mask breaking and his voice trailing as he realizes his lover doesn’t care either way.
The metaphorical and highly visualizing-pleasing music video takes the dream-like ambiguity to a whole new level. We enter an eerie scene of blooming sunflowers standing in a blue-walled room, that is watered, yet torn, and the butterfly of hope, dead by the end. Further creepy elements include symbolic drummers wrapped in gauze, two people chained together yet never kissing and so much more.
Directed by Ben Kirschenbaum, the official music video has received positive feedback. One viewer even commented: “Air meets Radiohead meets Tame Impala.”
Listen to Forever Searching’s intriguing single, “I Don’t Think I Love You Anymore” and its visualizer and find yourself hypnotized.
