This Christmas, Mary Strand brings a bold, new punk anthem in the shape of a jingle with her latest track, ‘I Wanna Believe.’. The lawyer-turned-novelist-turned-songwriter’s modern spin on classic holiday jingles is a reflection of her evolving identity as a rockstar and marks the beginning of her journey in uncharted territories. Along with guitar and vocals from Mary, ‘I Wanna Believe’ also contains contributions from Ryan Smith (guitar and backing vocals), Mark Wade (bass and backing vocals), and Jack Strand (drums), who make up the band Mary Strand and the Garage. They draw on the gritty, raw punk influences of bands such as The Ramones, The Strokes, and The Muffs and manage to procreate a shocking and unique blend of nostalgia with modernity.
The track starts off with a guitar solo being played with wild abandon, and Mary’s thin timbre starts vocalizing soon afterwards. Distinct notes of sleigh bells are sprinkled throughout the track, adding to the festive spirit, and the singer’s youthful voice drives ‘I Wanna Believe’ further into becoming an original destined to become a cult classic in the punk community.
Mary Strand’s track, which was released on the 08th of November, is a refreshing take on Christmas classics, and while the message of ‘I Wanna Believe’ is quite simple, it is something people from all around can resonate with. To find out more, visit Mary Strand on Spotify.
