Mortal Prophets have released their latest EP, ICNCLST this Aug 20. Perfect for this time of the year, this EP washes you over with psychedelic rock and pop through seven dynamic tracks. Produced by David Sisko and mastered by Mike Tucci, “ICNCLST” features a stellar lineup of musicians.
The opening track, “Flowers For You,” sets the tone for the EP with its high-wailing churns of psychedelia. With bustling drums against the romance-soaked mystique, the haunting atmosphere glimmers like heat waves swaying in the sun. “The Sun Is On Fire,” on the other hand, intoxicates you with adrenaline as John Beckmann sings, “Let’s run.” The song evokes the imagery of oblivion staring us in the face, alongside the pulsating suspense, as we run.
“Who’s That Girl” has a hauntingly dreamy elegance to the melody shimmering above but it also gets subtly groovy with a beat keeping us engaged throughout. Most importantly, their relaxing rhythm helps us dive right into Beckmann’s deep timbre. The whole combination is perfect for storytelling and gets us wondering who exactly is that girl.
“So Real” changes the weather with pulsating rhythms. Wailing over them, are counterbalancing organ-like atmospherics. The way Beckmann heaves as he sings, “You are miles away…” the yearning really gets in your head and makes you miss your long-distance partner.
“Dreamland” finalizes the EP on a reflective and hopeful note. He slowly and conclusively sings, “Did you ever wonder where dreams come from? There’s no place like home.” The song’s beautiful melody and uplifting lyrics offer a sense of closure and peace, best for conclusion.
Listen to ICNCLST to find out how Mortal Prophets, helmed by John Beckmann, invoke aural hypnotism through multiple exhilarating ways.
